Conscious Integration

This work allowed reflection into the origins of creative practice and their associated tender experiences. Over the first half of 2024, participants of the group diorama were welcomed to make a small contribution to an abstract landscape using modelling clay. Participants created the core of the work and recalled childhood sensations of play, subverting artists role of labour and ownership of creative experience. The group diorama's creation process left a welcomed sentiment that momentarily shifted the focus of my practice, granting safe passage to making a diorama out of copper and jewellery items from previous years (Subliminal Field), presenting my practice within the present through the channels of the past. These two worlds exist entangled within a consistent sentiment. Group Diorama and Subliminal Field were shown in a soft place to land, a group exhibition curated by Katharina Ganster and myself at Webb Gallery, Queensland College of Art. This body of work was continued with the making of a second group diorama, Group Diorama Two. For my birthday, friends and family were invited to construct diorama within a soft place to land at Webb Gallery. Within a diorama revival era, this felt like an appropriate idea adjacent to the thematics of a birthday party. Conscious Integration are multiple works created in tandem reflecting the origins of my creative practice, making dioramas with my brothers, friends and family.
