In This World
In This world, is a video/installation work investigating the phenomenology of specular and diffused reflection and their ability to produce illusions through the lens of metal materiality. The work was originally produced and installed at Queensland College of Art and reiterated version was later shown in Going Cold, a group exhibition curated by Ella Cumming and Mai Naito at Vacant Assembly.
The set, moments in the video and the sculptures aid each other to produce compounding reflections that perpetuate illusion throughout the installation. Ambiguous framing influences scale and produces a monolithic perception of the material works. Simultaneously viewing these scenes through warped perceptions of time considers an existential context that engages the monstrous when portraying these materials. Further perpetuating this existential feeling, the aesthetic imagery is contrasted by unsettling sounds - a sculptural metaphor for the equally beautiful and terrifying nature of the universe.
